British director Ridley Scott's "Robin Hood" will be screened to mark the curtain-up of the Cannes Film Festival on May 12, the festival announced Friday.
The epic film starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett will not compete for prizes, the organizers told Xinhua in an email statement, adding that it will be released in French theaters on the same day and hit screens outside France two days later.
Crowe has cooperated with Scott in several movies such as " Gladiator," "A Good Year" and "American Gangster."
The 72-year-old British director was previously represented at the Cannes festival with his 1977 film "The Duellists," which received an award for Best First Work.
The 63rd Cannes Film Festival runs from May 12 to 23.
