A China movie week entitled "Cinema of China: Fragments of History" was unveiled?in Moscow?Friday during the 32nd Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) at the October Cinema.
Seven Chinese films from three different periods will be shown in the six-day movie week in Moscow and St. Petersburg, ranging from the Goddess and Crossroads of the 1930s, to contemporary Chinese features such as Ballet of Two Dancers, Cell Phone and Painted Skin.
The special program of MIFF was also a major event of the Chinese Language Year in Russia.
Zhang Jianyong, deputy director of China Film Archives, said at the opening ceremony that all these seven films represented the basic artistic forms of Chinese cinema over the past 100 years.
Hopefully Russian audience could obtain a deeper and finer image of Chinese cinema via watching them, he said.
Chief of Russian Film Commission, Sergei Zernov, in a congratulatory message to the movie week, praised the profound cultural essence of Chinese cinema after evolving for more than 100 years.
It is a pity, however, that Russian audience know little about it since few Chinese movies were screened in Russia before, he said.
Zernov meanwhile voiced hope that the Chinese cinema could further enhance Russian and Chinese people's mutual interests in each other's lives.
The 32nd Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) opened Thursday night at Moscow Pushkinsky cinema-hall, with the participation of more than 100 movies from Russia, Germany, Spain among other countries.
A total of 17 movies entered the main competition sector, chasing the festival's top prize: Golden St. George statuette.
