Summer is the season for music festivals, and this year, the volume has continued climbing with the mercury.
In accordance with the proliferation of the country's music scene, Max Star Music Festival will bring 28 leading local acts to Beijing's Ditan Park from Aug 16 to 22. Major names include Tang Dynasty, Xie Tianxiao, Brain Failure, New Pants, Carsick Cars and Ourself Beside Me.
Sub-stages will also feature several emerging groups, such as Rustic, Demerit and Larry's Pizza.
"Every day's performance showcases its own characteristic and highlights that which is unique about it," Max Star Music Corporation general manager Tang Yueming tells China Daily.
Performances span a range of genres, including folk, rock and hip-hop.
"People are now finding their favorite styles within the recent diversification of music," Tang says.
"Our only worry is whether they'll have enough energy to keep up with the weeklong schedule."
Carsick Cars vocalist Shou Wang believes the festival offers a good opportunity for Chinese bands to show the world what they're made of.
"While it's a little unfortunate there will be no famous foreign acts, it's a great chance for people to understand how great the local scene is," Shou says.
Max Star Music Festival will also be the longest lasting music bash to take over a public park.
Organizers believe the location will prove a boon.
"Ditan Park is near the Second Ring Road, so I guess I'll ride my bike there rather than squeezing into the crowded subway for a long time," fan Liu Xin says.
