The public was shocked and saddened when 24-year-old singer Wang Bei died in November while undergoing cosmetic surgery in the central Chinese province of Hubei.

The tragedy fueled concerns about the dangers of plastic surgery and the Ministry of Health has ordered a probe into her death.

Every year, millions go under the knife in China to improve their appearance. The cosmetic surgery industry is worth about 15 billion yuan (US$2.2 billion) a year, and has attracted some shady operators. But beauty-seekers seem undeterred by the risks. Above are some before and after surgery pictures of stars.
