Chinese equities erased Wednesday's slight gains to open lower Thursday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index declining 0.64 percent, to open at 2,838.95 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index dropped 0.61 percent to 10,936.96 points at opening.
