Foxconn Technology Group plans to move its iPad and iPhone production lines to inland cities, leaving its Shenzhen division to concentrate on R&D.
A manager from Foxconn's iPhone R&D department said Tuesday that the company plans to relocate its iPhone production to Zhengzhou in Henan Province, and its iPad production to Taiyuan in Shanxi Province. Foxconn started to move its iPhone production in early July, and the process is expected to be completed by July or August next year.
The manager also said that Foxconn's PC production line in Yantai, Shandong Province, will move to Wuhan, Hubei Province, which will become the company's major production base for desktop PCs.
An insider familiar with Foxconn's business strategy said Apple products and desktop PCs are the company's core businesses. The relocation of production lines reveals the new layout of Foxconn's businesses on the Chinese mainland.
