Chinese economist Zhu Min will be named deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), a post to be created by the IMF's new chief Christine Lagarde, Sina Finance reported Thursday.

Zhu became a special advisor to former IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn in February 2010. Before that, he was the vice president of the Bank of China.

Lagarde pledged Wednesday to give more sway to emerging countries in the IMF's decision-making process. Institutions like the IMF should better reflect the shifting balance of power in the global economy, Lagarde said, adding that the idea of creating a top-ranking post at the IMF to give more say to emerging economies was "not a bad idea."

If Zhu gets the job, he will be the second Asian face among high-ranking IMF officials. The other one is Singapore's finance minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who is chairman of the IMF's International Monetary and Financial Committee.

An IMF spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.
