The United States has taken its subsidy battle with China to the
next step. The US Trade Representative has called upon the World
Trade Organization's Dispute Settlement Body to set up an
investigative panel to look into China's subsidy policies on
enterprises' exports. The DSB has placed the US request on its
discussion agenda for the July 24 meeting.
Mei Xinyu, a researcher with the Chinese Academy of
International Trade and Economic Cooperation, has labeled this
attack a new US method to seek a trade dispute in an interview with
China Business News.
Yu Shengxing, an anti-dumping and anti-subsidy expert, believes
that anti-subsidies are a more direct way for the US to achieve its
goals, namely to open up the Chinese market still further and
protecting intellectual property rights.
