Husband's euthanasia trial starts in Shenzhen

A?man went on trial for manslaughter yesterday, standing accused of causing his wife's death by removing her life support equipment while she was in a deep coma in Guangdong Province.
Wen Yuzhang, 38, from Shenzhen City, was charged with manslaughter, the Guangzhou Daily reported yesterday.
His wife, Hu Jing, 34, from Wuhan City, capital of Hubei Province, fell into a coma in their home in Shenzhen on February 9, the Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court heard.
Wen immediately sent her to a hospital but her condition worsened. She slipped into a deep coma and never recovered.
On February 16, Wen pulled out Hu's life support tubes while she was in intensive care at Shenzhen No. 2 People's Hospital. Medical staff and Hu's family members failed to stop him. After 20 minutes, Hu died, the report said.
Wen told police that he loved his wife so much that he couldn't bear seeing her suffer and thus sought a way to end her ordeal.
Wen's brother supported his claim. He told the Guangzhou Daily that the couple had a strong marriage.
Hu was unconscious on life support, her pupils were enlarged and her lungs infected, the brother added.
According to a police forensic report, Hu slipped into a coma due to intracranial bleeding resulting from deformed blood vessels in her brain. She died from the removal of life support facilities as she was unable to breathe by herself, the report said.
