Five miners have died after a coal mine flooding in west China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Friday morning, the regional coal mine safety administration said Friday.

The accident occurred at about 9 a.m. in Longneng Coal Mining Co. in the Taiyangshan Development Zone in Wuzhong City when 13 miners were working underground. Five managed to escape.

One miner were rescued and two more were still trapped underground.

The rescue operation, which involves more than 100 rescuers and medical staff, is still going on.
