The death toll from a violent storm in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality since Wednesday has reached 29, said the municipal meteorological bureau Thursday.

The gales, torrential rain and hail that lashed the city from Wednesday night to Thursday morning had also left 190 people injured as of 3:45 p.m. Thursday.
Liangping and Dianjiang counties and Fuling district were among the hardest-hit.
In Dianjiang, the storms destroyed 980 residential buildings and damaged more than 10,000. The damage was estimated at more than 120 million yuan (17.6 million U.S. dollars), said a spokesman for the county government.
Shaping township in Dianjiang saw the highest wind speed of 112 km per hour, while Hanjia township, Pengshui county, received the most rain with 157 mm in the 24 hours to noon Thursday.
The Chongqing municipal civil affairs bureau has sent 300 tents, 1,000 quilts and emergency lights to the affected regions.
In addition, the municipal health authorities have dispatched two teams of medical workers to Dianjiang and Liangping counties.
