Macao's Judiciary Police has arrested a man who attempted to smuggle 77 capsules of heroin into the city by carrying them in his stomach, the Macao Post Daily reported on Monday.
The 43-year-old suspect, who had entered Macao before, was arrested following a random check upon his arrival at the Macao International Airport on a flight from Kuala Lumpur.
The X-ray check revealed that the suspect surnamed Jansen, had swallowed 77 capsules of heroine with a total weight of 955 grams, the daily quoted a Judiciary Police as saying.
The spokesman also said that the suspect admitted that he would be paid 20,000 HK dollars (2,500 U.S. dollars) once he smuggled the drugs into the Chinese mainland via Macao.
The seized drugs were estimated to have a street value of over 1 million patacas (125,000 U.S. dollars), according to the spokesman.
The suspect has been transferred to Macao's Public Prosecution for further investigations.
