Police have detained 62 people after breaking up a porn website, according to the public security bureau in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.
Police seized the alleged ringleader surnamed Zhang on March 6 in Beijing, said a statement issued by the bureau Friday.
The other suspects, mainly administrators and forum moderators of the website, were detained in about 20 provinces and regions in China in a follow-up operation, the statement said.
Zhang, 29, had confessed he bought the porn website for 4,000 U.S. dollars from its former owner in 2008 and leased two servers outside China, said the statement.
Zhang allegedly earned profits of 400,000 yuan (59,040 U.S. dollars) from the website with 300,000 registered members. Membership fees ranged from 68 to 598 yuan.
