Hong Kong Government Friday approved a grant of 2 million HK dollars (about 257,600 U.S. dollars) for the relief of flood victims in the mainland province of Shaanxi.
The fund will be granted to World Vision Hong Kong to undertake a relief project for flood victims in Shaanxi.
A government spokesman said that the city's Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee hoped it would help provide relief to flood victims in Shaanxi.
The grant is further to a disbursement of 17.23 million HK dollars made earlier for some other relief organizations to provide emergency relief to flood victims in Guangxi, Hunan, Jiangxi and Yunnan provinces of the mainland. It takes the total value of grants for flood victims on the mainland to 19.23 million HK dollars.
"To ensure that the money will be used for the designated purposes, the relief agency has been asked to submit an evaluation report and audited accounts on the use of the grant after the relief project has been completed," the spokesman said.
