A person in Shanghai won the country's second largest jackpot, scooping 259 million yuan (US$37,77 million) from the China Welfare Lottery last night.
The new millionaire, whose identity is not revealed, paid 200 yuan to buy 25 identical "Double Color Ball" tickets at a booth on West Dalian Road, Yangpu District, the local Youth Daily reported today.
The buyer should pay 50 million yuan for tax, 20 percent of his windfall.
The country's biggest jackpot went to a man in central China's Henan Province last year, reaching 360 million yuan.
