Chinese police has shut down nearly 2,500 websites that are found to contain obscene contents, offer drug trade or gambling services in the five months ending October, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) said Thursday.
Police nationwide found and disposed of more than 1.4 million online posts or messages since they launched a campaign to eliminate websites that contain obscene contents or offer illegal trade services of guns and explosives in June, according to the MPS.
Police cracked down on more than 4,000 criminal cases, arrested nearly 7,050 suspects, and destroyed more than 660 dens, a MPS official said at a news briefing on the campaign Thursday.
