Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang on Wednesday stressed that more measures were needed to boost work safety and guard against serious accidents in workplaces.
China's work safety has been improving with big declines in deaths and accident numbers during the 11th Five-Year-Plan period (2006-2010), Zhang said.
Even so, more efforts were needed to make workplaces safer in the 12th Five-Year-Plan period (2011-2015), said Zhang in a national video-phone conference on safety in production.
To achieve this, more measures should be made to standardize production processes and boost science and technology developments, he said.
He urged greater supervision of work safety around Spring Festival, or the Chinese lunar New year which falls on Feb. 3 this year.
Particular attention should be given to transportation, crowded places, venues of entertainment, large convention places and fireworks producers and sellers, Zhang added.
