"I won't be trapped by an unaffordable house." – Lu Qingyun, Guangzhou

Lu Qingyun and Hu Yupeng got married on August 7, 2008 in Guangzhou. Lu works for a famous video website and Hu sells cars. Neither is originally from the city. They made a conscious decision not to buy their own house and are very satisfied with the home they rent. It's in a convenient downtown location near both their jobs.
Lu smiled and explained that they certainly can afford a moderately priced home, but in order to purchase their ideal house in Guangzhou, they would have to get bank loans. Hu added that they didn't want the pressure of monthly payments.
"We prefer not to borrow a large amount of money from the bank. It doesn't make sense to take loans for an unaffordable house. We'd be prisoners of the bank and our careers would suffer. We wouldn't dare change jobs," he said.
Lu and Hu have taken advantage of their freedom from loan payments by traveling extensively throughout China, and next year they plan to travel abroad. They may not currently own a house, but they're comfortable and enjoying their life.
