A land administrator in east China's Zhejiang Province was arrested for attempting to rape an intoxicated waitress in a hotel although the man claimed he was helping her wake up.
The prosecutors of Rui'an City said yesterday that it approved the arrest of Yu Ruihan, who was also removed on the same day from his post as a branch director of the city's land and resources bureau.
The prosecutors said Yu allegedly pulled a waitress surnamed Xia into a hotel room after they drank some wine and sang Karaoke in the early morning of November 16, last year. As Yu was trying to take off Xia's pants, Xia shouted and attracted police.
Yu was detained on January 7. During his detention, Xia said Yu has offered her several gifts including mobile phones and clothes for reconciliation. Before the scandal happened, Yu had already been investigated by local anti-corruption watchdog.
