At least 16 people were killed and 21 others injured in a road accident in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region Monday morning, government sources said early Tuesday.
The accident took place at around 7:50 a.m. Monday on the Baxoi sector of the G318 Highway, which links Tibet and neighboring Sichuan Province, said a statement from the Tibetan regional government.
Nine people died at the scene and another seven succumbed to injuries after medical treatments failed, said the statement.
The accident involved a coach registered in Nyingchi Prefecture, the statement said, without giving information on how the accident occurred or how many people were on the vehicle.
The 21 injured are being treated, it added.
