Almost 1,500 cases of illegal land appropriation and demolition were handled in the year 2011, and 509 people involved were held accountable, a senior official said on Friday.

Qu Wanxiang, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Supervision under the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China, put the number of such cases at 1,480.
