Three people were confirmed dead and at least 10 others were injured as heavy fog wreaked havoc on China's roads Tuesday morning.
Three passengers died after their Buick van rear-ended a truck at around 9 a.m. on an expressway in the eastern province of Anhui, said Zhou Teng, an officer with the fire prevention bureau in Fuyang city.
Zhou said heavy fog had reduced visibility to less than 50 meters when the accident occurred.
A pileup on the same expressway at 7:30 a.m., which involved 12 vehicles, landed more than 10 people in hospital with injuries, Zhou said.
Heavy fog affected several other Chinese provinces and cities Tuesday, including Beijing, Hebei and Henan.
Beijing's Capital International Airport said 34 flights were canceled and 98 others were delayed for more than an hour as of 10 a.m.
