The Chinese mainland is prepared to address the water shortage in Taiwan's Kinmen county and can provide fresh water to the area at any time, a spokeswoman for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office said Wednesday.
Spokeswoman Fan Liqing told a regular press conference that the mainland is always concerned about the water shortage in the Kinmen area, and Kinmen county authorities also hope that the mainland can provide fresh water to local residents that live far from Taiwan but close to the mainland's Fujian Province.
"Fujian can provide fresh water from its coastal area at any time if there is a need in Kinmen," said Fan.
In response to a question concerning the upcoming third regular meeting of the Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Committee to be held on April 26 in Taiwan's city of Xinbei, Fan said the Chinese mainland and Taiwan will review and assess the implementation of the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement at the meeting.
Fan said a delegation led by Wang Guosheng, governor of Hubei Province, will visit Taiwan next month for "Hubei-Wuhan Taiwan Week," a cultural exchange program between the two areas.
