The second phase of the China National Convention Center has been unveiled in Beijing after six years of construction.
Located in the Beijing Olympic Center Area, the white building boasts an elegant roofline featuring straight lines on the top and curved lines at the bottom, adorned with distinctive "bird windows."
According to Zhao Lei, deputy director of the Coordination Department of the Beijing Major Projects Construction Headquarters Office, Phase II of the China National Convention Center is a pivotal project facilitating Beijing's efforts to become an international exchange center. It aims to create a distinctive landmark in the capital and a globally renowned convention and exhibition center.
The main structure of Phase II features multi-level, spacious column-free spaces. This was achieved due to a new method employed during construction, when 205 temporary support columns were installed on the ground floor to bear loads.
"This innovative method marks a first in China's construction industry," said Chi Mingzhi, project manager of Phase II of China National Convention Center.
Phase II of the project is equipped with numerous versatile meeting rooms of varying sizes, capable of hosting professional international conferences, exhibitions, forums, banquets, and other events. Upon official inauguration, it will be integrated with Phase I, forming a comprehensive exhibition complex exceeding 1.3 million square meters.
