Beijing recently unveiled an array of measures to develop new business types in the cultural sector and boost new cultural productive forces.

According to these measures, Beijing will basically establish an effective mechanism for the integration of culture and technology within about five years. Beijing's role as the national cultural center will be further highlighted by then, and its cultural soft power and international influence will be further strengthened.

In promoting technological innovation and the transformation of achievements in the cultural sector, Beijing will advance the application of new-generation information technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and big data, to empower new cultural scenarios and business models.

For strengthening the research, development, and application of new technologies in the film and television industry, Beijing plans to develop technology-intensive film and television production bases. This includes the construction of modern specialized studios, such as those featuring AI, underwater filming, high-tech digital photography, and virtual reality motion capture. The city will also encourage the establishment of new film and television post-production bases supported by advanced computing power.

In terms of promoting the optimization and upgrading of the ultra-high-definition (UHD) audio-visual industry, Beijing will support the integration and innovative application of UHD audio-visual technology with AI, XR virtual production, cloud computing, digital humans, naked-eye 3D, VR/AR, 5G/6G, and other technologies.

Additionally, the measures also cover seven other aspects, namely expanding new business forms and spaces in performing arts, stimulating new momentum in digital publishing, creating new scenarios for cultural and tourism consumption, innovating on the digital utilization of cultural heritage, deepening the digital and intelligent development of news media, strengthening the supply chain of the cultural sector, and supporting high-quality market entities and projects.
