The 2024 Tengchong Scientists Forum and the Lancang-Mekong Region Science and Technology Cultural Exchanges Series took place in southwest China's Yunnan province from Dec. 5-8.
The series aims to promote collaboration in key fields of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, including green development, traditional medicine, engineering technology, and youth development. It seeks to establish platforms for academic exchange, strengthen government-industry-academia-research collaboration, and facilitate the commercialization of scientific achievements. The series endeavors to create a hub for regional science and technology sharing and advance high-level cooperation among Lancang-Mekong countries.
The event featured three main components: the 2024 Lancang-Mekong Traditional Medicine Academic Exchange Conference, the Young Scientists Forum, and the 2024 Lancang-Mekong Engineers Forum. These sessions attracted high-level experts, scholars, young scientists and institutional representatives.
The forum highlighted four significant achievements since the launch of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation mechanism. An initiative to develop international standards for traditional medicine in the region was introduced alongside an exhibition showcasing this year's achievements in traditional medicine exchanges and cooperation. Additionally, the Chinese Society of Engineers announced plans to share sustainable development resources with regional engineering organizations, while an initiative was proposed to establish a cooperation network for young scientists in the Lancang-Mekong and Southeast Asian regions.
The 2024 Tengchong Scientists Forum and the Lancang-Mekong Region Science and Technology Cultural Exchanges Series were jointly hosted by the Chinese Society of Engineers, China Centre for International Science and Technology Exchange, China Association of Chinese Medicine, Yunnan Association for Science and Technology, and Baoshan Municipal People's Government. Approximately 300 delegates attended the event, including experts, scholars and young scientists from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries.
