Situated in northwestern Changping, Nankou was previously a center for the city's traditional manufacturing industries. The area has undergone significant redevelopment since construction began in June 2023. Upon completion, the site will house more than 14 national key laboratories operated by Tsinghua University.
The Tsinghua Nankou National Key Laboratory Base covers 43 hectares with 473,000 square meters of building space, arranged in seven groups from north to south. The project, planned in three phases, achieved remarkable progress with planning, design and construction completed within one year. While the first phase laboratories debut this December, the second and third phases are advancing toward a 2025 completion date.
The facility, designated as one of the city's first demonstration parks integrating advanced manufacturing with the modern service industry, will support national technology innovation strategies. It aims to become a premier destination for talent development, industrial transformation and urban renewal.
Nankou town officials have planned comprehensive amenities around the base, including transportation networks, educational facilities, health care services and residential areas to create an attractive environment for scientists and local residents.
