A high-ranking official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) says China resolutely opposes violent revolution, regardless of ideology.
Ai Ping, deputy head of the International Liaison Department of the CPC central committee made the statement during a meeting with a group of CRI's foreign journalists Friday in Beijing.
When asked by an Indian journalist whether or not China would support Indian Maoist rebels in their struggle against the Indian government, Ai Ping said that the Chinese government "does not engage with illegitimate or extreme political parties".
He was also asked to give more information regarding China's policy of working with governments that have different political systems.
Ai Ping stressed the evolving nature of both the Chinese Communist Party and world politics. He said that China's goal was to focus on the development of Chinese socialism and working in a cooperative manner with legitimate governments worldwide.
