Chinese courts at all levels handled 790,000 cases of petitions and complaints in 2011, a year-on-year drop of 25.9 percent, Chief Justice Wang Shengjun said Sunday.

"Lawsuit-related petition is an important channel to hear about suggestions and complaints and address public grievances," Wang, president of the Supreme People's Court, said in a report on the SPC's work at a meeting of the annual parliamentary session.

Around 90 percent of the courts across the country have set up petition reception offices, according to Wang.

Chinese courts also enhanced the efforts of providing legal aids in 2011, saving needy litigants lawsuit fees of 99.4 million yuan (about 15.8 million U.S. dollars), he said.
