"I am a spokesman for migrant workers and I vow to be responsible." Sun Donglin said in an interview with Beijing News on Thursday.

Donglin was born in a poor rural family of Huangpi District in Wuhan, Hubei Province. In the early years, he was a mere carpenter on construction sites, but moved on to set up a construction team together with his elder brother Sun Shuilin in 1989.

A sudden traffic accident snatched away the elder brother Sun Shuilin on his way home on Feb.9, 2010, with 260,000 yuan in wages prepared to be distributed to his workers.

To finish his brother's unfulfilled task, Sun Donglin was determined to deliver the wages to more than 60 workers before Lunar New Year's Eve. He said it was his brother's wish for all the workers to enjoy a truly happy new year with their wages.

Sun's deed moved a large number of people, especially those who were used to hearing of labor disputes about back payments for migrant workers.

Sun Donglin was elected deputy to the 12th National People's Congress this year. He calls for more concern regarding the rights and benefits of migrant workers. "Further steps are expected to be taken by the central government to promote the rights of migrant workers in terms of social insurance, public health, housing and their children's education." he said.

"I hope that I can do something as a representative of China's 200 million migrant workers and make their voices heard by the opportunity of the upcoming First Session of the 12th National People's Congress," he said.
