BEIJING, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese lawmakers are considering a draft law revision that would promote universal access to science and technology knowledge.
The draft revision to the Science and Technology Popularization Law was submitted to an ongoing session of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, which began on Saturday and will run through Wednesday, for its second reading.
The latest draft proposes the designation of September as an annual national science popularization month.
It also stipulates that open universities, senior universities, community colleges and similar institutions should provide education on health and wellness, information technology, smart technologies, emergency safety, and other relevant areas and skills. This is aimed at enhancing the abilities of elderly individuals, people with disabilities and other groups to access, identify and apply information effectively.
The second draft specifies that any science popularization products or services provided by organizations or individuals, as well as any science popularization information that they release, must be legal and scientifically accurate, and must not contain false or erroneous content.
It also requires internet service providers to take immediate action once they determine a user is disseminating false or erroneous information to prevent its further spread. Enditem
