24 responsible for CCTV building fire under control
Adjust font size:

Chinese work safety authorities said Friday that 24 people responsible for the China Central Television (CCTV)'s new headquarter fire were "under control" as on-spot investigation concluded.

It has been confirmed that the fire, which killed one and injured seven, was caused by banned fireworks, Huang Yi, spokesman for the State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS), told a press conference in Beijing.

The investigation, started by the State Council on April 9, would continue to focus on the calculation of the direct economic loss caused by the accident, as well as people responsible for it, he said.

The fire on the night of Feb. 9 involved a 30-storey building which housed the nearly-completed luxury Mandarin Oriental Hotel and part of the new headquarters of the state television network in Beijing's Central Business District.

A fireman died and seven people, including six firemen and a construction worker, were injured in the blaze.

The administration would inform the public with any new development of the investigation, said Huang.
