Shandong Provincial Museum will launch a series of activities to celebrate the 36th International Museum Day on May 18.
The museum's simulated archaeological pavilion will officially open to the public on the morning of May 18. It simulates a genuine archaeological site, and gives children working knowledge of on-the-ground archaeology. It is China's first example of providing an interactive archaeological experience in a museum.
The museum will also organize an activity called "Night at the museum," and will run from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on May 18.
The Shandong Provincial Museum in Jinan, Shandong's capital, was completed and opened to the public in November 2010. It houses a collection of more than 100,000 historical artifacts. The old Shandong Provincial Museum, founded in 1954, was the first large-scale provincial museum in China.
