Ancient
Colored-Brick Tomb Found in Henan
|
????An ancient brick
tomb decorated with dozens of colored frescoes has been found in
Kaifeng City in central China's Henan Province.
????Believed to date from the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), the
tomb is the first of its kind found in the city, experts said.
????The tomb was robbed one hundred years ago. Archaeologists have
concluded that it was built for a local squire and his wife, judging
from three bronze coins and a pottery jar, and the frescoes depicting
their lives.
????On the tomb's arched ceiling are paintings of chrysanthemums and
water lilies.
????Kaifeng is famous for its chrysanthemums, and the painting indicates
that the flower was cultivated in the city almost 1,000 years earlier
than previously thought, a local official said.
