Hu, Roh Discuss Korean Peninsula Issues Over Phone
Adjust font size:

Chinese President Hu Jintao talked with the President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Roh Moo-hyun by phone on Friday, calling all relevant parties to be patient and restrained, and to push forward the six-party talks process.

Hu urged the parties to follow the principle of maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia.

Hu said he hoped all parties will handle the peninsula issues in a discreet and responsible way and avoid any actions that may further complicate the situation.

Hu urged all parties to do more to promote dialogues, enhance mutual trust and ease the tense situation in order to strive for an early resumption of the six-party talks and a better situation on the Korean Peninsula.

China always commits itself to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia, and is committed to finding a peaceful resolution of the Korean Peninsula issue through dialogue, Hu said.

Speaking highly of the active efforts made by the Chinese side in resolving issues on the Korean Peninsula, Roh said ROK is willing to work with other concerned parties to continue promoting the resumption of the six-party talks.

On bilateral relations, Hu said the China-ROK ties are developing rapidly with smooth cooperation in politics, economy, trade, and keeping good coordination in international and regional issues.

"China highly values relations with the ROK and will work with the ROK to boost the development of China-ROK comprehensive cooperative partnership," Hu said.

Roh said he agreed with Hu on the ROK-China relations.

He said he believed that the ROK-China relations will keep moving forward with the joint efforts of the two sides.
