The Zhangjiajie National Geology Park opened to the public Sunday, with the approval of the Ministry of Land and Resources.
Situated in northwestern Hunan Province and in the heart of the Wulingyuan Mountains, Zhangjiajie boasts unique and beautiful natural scenery.
The park covers 3,600 square kilometers. Experts noted that the establishment of the national geology park will help promote tourism in the area, as well as suitably utilize and protect sandstone resources.
In 1982, Zhangjiajie was given approval by the State Council tobe the first state forest park in China, and was put on the World Heritage list by UNESCO in 1992.
