China Saturday expressed strong displeasure and opposition to the US House of Representatives passage of the defense authorization bill for fiscal year 2003, which contains anti-China provisions.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said China clearly stated its position on the bill by making solemn representations to the United States.
The provisions relating to Taiwan in the bill pose a violation of the three Sino-US joint communiqu?s and the US government's commitment to China, Kong said.
The provisions constitute an infringement on the sovereignty of China and intervention in its domestic affairs, which is unacceptable to the Chinese government and people, he said.
China urges the US government to realize the possible serious consequences of the anti-China provisions and adopt effective measures to prevent them from being made into law, lest it cause serious damage to Sino-US relations, he said.
