High-tech Expo Set to Stress WTO and Olympic Games

Beijing is due to host the fifth session of China Beijing International Sci-Tech Industries Expo from May 23 to 28.

The event is expected to focus on the opportunities and challenges arising from Beijing's successful bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games and China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), while sports science and technology will be the hot topic, experts said.

All the activities during this session will be connected with the WTO entry, 2008 Olympic Games and science and technology, including four forums on the WTO, according to sources from Monday's press conference.

At the appointed time, foreign politicians including Singapore Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew and former Australian Prime Minister Robert Hawke, Nobel Prize winners, entrepreneurs of world top 500 enterprises, will exchange experiences on developing the national economy as a WTO member, to provide an opportunity for Chinese government, business entities, and enterprises on discussing how to launch the international cooperation.

A special exhibition on the 2008 Olympics and relevant constructions will be part of the event. The Beijing 2008 Olympic Organizing Committee will make a complete introduction on the 2008 Olympic Game schedule, construction projects, and financing policies.

So far, over 100 foreign and domestic enterprises and institutes have registered to attend the event.

As reported, the 5th session of China Beijing International Sci-Tech Industries Expo will be the largest one of its kind, a grand gathering-together for international organizations, foreign governments and institutions, world top 500 enterprises, and world well-known financial, investment and securities institutions, that are in connection with the high-tech industries.

The event will involve exhibitions, professional forums and lectures, special seminars, Internet-based interactive forums, and some other activities promoting hi-tech application and business co-operation.
