Standing on a precipice on the northern banks of the Daling River, the pagoda is in the south of Wanfotang Villager nine kilometers northwest of Yixian County near Jinzhou City.
Since the shape of the pagoda is very special, it would be difficult to tell whether it was a Buddhist pagoda or not if it weren?t for an inscription on a stone tablet inlaid in the base of the pagoda that says that during the Ming Dynasty General Wang Kai, who was stationed in Wangfotang Village in 1474, ordered his soldiers to ?build a pagoda on the left bank of the river? so that he would be remembered by later generations. Another purpose was to pray for the longevity of the general?s mother.
The pagoda is a tube with a small stone cover on top decorated with three stone beads, one on top of the other. Standing only 3.4 meters high, it is a spectacular example of a unique form among Buddhist pagodas in China.
