Promoting the Spirit of Perseverance
Xi Jinping first highlighted the importance of perseverance at the second plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee in February 2013. He compared this quality to what is required to drive nails. More often than not, you cannot drive a nail into its right place in one go. Effective nailing requires repeated precision hammering. And to put your project in place, you have to repeat the same process of precision hammering many times. Failing that, you will end up with a shoddy project that is likely to fall apart any time. Since that meeting, Xi has on many occasions emphasized the virtue of perseverance.
Perseverance requires a combination of a pragmatic and down-to-earth approach to tackling challenges and a keen understanding of any underlying problems and the larger context. It is a mindset that is key to overcoming heavy odds and winning an uphill battle. Having the perseverance to hammer away until a task is done – this is one way of conduct and a clear-cut attitude to work.
