Olympic champion Zhang Ning has surged into the quarterfinals of the women's singles at the China Open badminton tournament in Guangzhou.
Zhang Ning beat her Chinese countrywoman Wang Yihan 2-0 in a second round match and she will play Xie Xingfang of China on Friday.
Second and third seeds Gong Ruina and Zhou Mi have respectively crushed their Chinese competitors in two sets to join Zhang Ning in the last eight of women's singles.
