A senior Chinese official has pledged to firmly fight against the destructive activities by hostile forces, ethnic separatists and terrorists in 2002.
Luo Gan, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the secretary of the Committee of Political Science and Law Under the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks in a report to a national conference on the work of political science and law Tuesday.
He called for steadily pushing forward the judicial reform and sparing no efforts to safeguard social stability, so as to welcome the convening of the 16th National Congress of the CPC.
In his report, the official summed up this year's work including the launching of the "Strike Hard" campaign and other programs to improve social security, streamline market order, and fight terrorist activities.
China's entry into the World Trade Organization has created favorable conditions for the country's reform and development, Luo said, adding that China is enjoying political stability, unity of all nationalities and social progress.
However, he warned that dangerous influences capable of organizing devastating criminal activities do exist in China, which is deepening its reform and replacing the old economic system with a new one.
In the next year, top priority should be given to protecting social stability and creating a sound social environment for the reform, development and the convening of the 16th National Congress of the CPC, Luo said.
