Chinese State Councilor Wu Yi has urged national authorities to crack down on rampant irregularities in the certification market and kick bad elements out of the business.
At a national working conference on certification Tuesday in Beijing, Wu said all false certification practices must be stopped to encourage fair competition among certification businesses.
She blamed duplicate administration, chaos of standards and weak supervision, largely a result of the planned economy, for the disorderly market.
The state councilor urged the state certification regulatory commission and other authorities to speed up the drafting of a regulatory system, apply a strict standard in issuing certification licenses and hand out stern punishment for violators.
Those without proper qualification who constantly ignore regulations should be kicked out of the industry, Wu said.
