Vice-Premier Stresses Reemployment Issue

Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo has called for more efforts to relieve the living difficulty of laid-off workers and safeguard a stable environment for the country's reform and development.

Wu urged local officials to be fully aware of the significance and urgency of reemployment, noting that greater efforts should be made and more effective policies should be adopted to do the work well, so that the laid-off workers who are capable and willing to work may be reemployed.

The vice-premier made the remarks in a recent conference on reemployment which was attended by related officials in some provincial areas. Wu presided over the meeting, seeking opinions on making policies to boost government's efforts to deal with the

issue.

China has made great achievements in resolving the problem of unemployment, thanks to correct leadership of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council and joint efforts of the entire society, Wu said.

Wu Bangguo noted that some laid-off factory workers are having a difficult time. He urged local Party committees and governments at different levels to attach great importance to the issue.

Officials from 11 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities attended the conference held on June 5 and 6 in Shijiazhuang, capital of north China's Hebei Province.
