World Reaction to Bush's Reelection

The international community has reacted positively after incumbent US President George W. Bush declared victory in his campaign for re-election.

Chinese President Hu Jintao sent a congratulatory message to Bush on his re-election, expressing his hope of working together with Bush to push forward Sino-US relations.

In the message, Hu Jintao says that since Bush assumed the presidency, China and the United States have made significant progress in cooperation in various fields, bringing substantial benefits to both countries and playing a positive role in promoting peace and development in the Asia Pacific region and rest of the world.

UN chief Kofi Annan issued a statement, hoping to maintain "positive and productive" relationship between the world body and the US government.

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, hopes to continue cooperation with the US in the campaign against international terrorism.

European Commission President, Romano Prodi, European Union foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, and NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, says Europe and NATO hope to continue improving cooperative ties with America.

British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, stressed that Europe and the US should rebuild their alliance and called on the international community to work with the US to bring peace in the Middle East area.

French President, Jacques Chirac, says he hopes to strengthen French-US ties and the transatlantic partnership.

Ailing Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, currently hospitalized in Paris, says he hopes Bush can bring new momentum to the peace process in the Middle East.
