Malaysia and Qatar Airlines Recruit Local Cabin Crew
Malaysia Airlines and Qatar Airways launched a recruitment of 200cabin crew in Shanghai yesterday, with lower than normal height requirements, the Youth Post reported today.

The Shanghai Jinghong Exit-Entry Service Co Ltd is running the recruitment, which is open to candidates with at least a high school education.

"There are over 100applicants today, "said an employee with the recruitment office. The first round of selection involves a test of written English and a face-to-face interview, the employee said.

The height requirements are at least 1.58meters for women and at least 1.65meters for men, 10cm lower than industry standards. As passengers from West and Southeast Asia are comparatively short, very tall cabin crew may make them uncomfortable, explained an interviewer, surnamed Wu.

Malaysia Airlines plans to recruit 120-150people and Qatar Airways more than 50,Wu said. "English proficiency is our top consideration, "Wu said. Recruits without cabin crew experience will make a base salary of US$690a month, while experienced recruits will make US$820.On top of that is an hourly wage of 30yuan,meaning that recruits can earn up to 10,000yuan a month, he added.

The second round of selection will begin at the end of next month,Wu said.
