The Children of Huang Shi Eyes the Oscar
Adjust font size:

An unfinished Chinese-Australian-German film cooperation which tells a heartwarming story set in 1930s wartime China, is eyeing an Oscar award.

Though missing leading cast members and director Roger Spottiswoode, producers of The Children of Huang Shi pronounced their ambition at a Monday press conference during the ongoing Shanghai International Film Festival, says a Beijing Youth Daily report.

The producers also announced the month of the film's premiere - March - with an additional star-studded charity event to be held at the premiere ceremony in Huangshi city, central China's Hubei Province.

The producers announced that the charity event is in line with the film's theme to promote humanitarianism.

The US$40 million film revolves around a young British journalist who, with the assistance of a courageous Australian nurse, saves a group of orphaned Chinese children during the Japanese invasion in late 1930s.

The film rallies both top Chinese and foreign actors, including Chow Yun-Fat, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Radha Mitchell.
