China's Vice Premier Hui Liangyu Friday said more work was needed to stop the Huaihe River from flooding. Land along the river is some in the most flood-prone in the country.
Addressing a meeting held by the State Council, the Cabinet, for flood prevention work, Hui said effective flood control and disaster reduction systems were urgently needed in the Huaihe River valley.
Hui said he was also very concerned about the recent floods in southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, resulting in 44 deaths. He urged local government to focus on resettlement of the affected, and to prevent more loss of life.
