An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.5 jolted Ogasawara Islands in the Pacific early Thursday, said the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), which issued no tsunami warning.
The focus of the quake, which occurred at 6:50 a.m. Thursday (2150 GMT Wednesday), was located around 10 km under the sea off Chichijima in the Ogasawara islands chain, some 1,000 km south of Tokyo, said the agency.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to properties.
