China will this year boost efforts to protect wetlands, the State Forestry Administration said Wednesday, the fifteenth World Wetlands Day.
China will further promote wetland protection legislation this year, an official of the administration said.
By 2015, China will ensure that 55 percent of Chinese wetlands are under protection, according to the official.
The theme of this year's World Wetlands Day is "Wetlands and Woods."
World Wetlands Day marks the anniversary of the signing of the Convention on Wetlands. Signed on Feb. 2, 1971, the convention is an international effort to protect wetlands around the world.
